Hairdye 2: The basics (2) What you need to know when you start dye your hair

So many people complain why they can’t get the exact color like on the package of the dye. So first of all you should take a look at these factors.

III. Bleach

Bleach is the process of eliminate original color pigment out of your hair. It works the same with permanent hair dye do, however, it doesn’t contain any new color pigment to replace. It just wash color our of your hair. This is the first step of having a “rainbow” hair. But we will go back to this step in a careful way later.

Another common known, many people misunderstand that after bleaching you will have white hair and that why they keep bleaching their hair few times (since they can’t get the white color) which totally ruin your hair. So, how to get white hair? Moving on to the next section

IV.Color wheel

So here it is. As you can see we have 3 primary color as red, blue and yellow. These are the 3 strongest color, it can be use on natural black/brown hair but still give you quite visible results (of course it can’t last long).

Have you ever wonder why you bleach your hair 3-4 time but still your hair can’t turn white? Bleach suppose to wash out all of the color pigment and you have to have white hair? The answer is not. Bleach your hair more than 2 times in a row only damage, ruin your hair. It can’t turn white unless you understand how’s the color wheel works.

Look at the wheel, the opposite color of yellow is purple, right? When you mix these two color together as ratio 1:1, voila, you will have white color, white as snow, I promise!

The wheel color works exactly the same on your hair. After bleaching, you will get a yellow/orange tone on your hair (Trust me! It looks gross). To avoid color mixing that will change your dye you need to bring your hair to a transparent/white tone using a toner mix (semi-permanent) that have the lilac/purple tone as it’s the opposite color with yellow on the wheel. The wheel works only on bleached hair! After using toner your hair will turn white and then you can apply any color you want to have the best result.

Hairdye 1: The basics (1) What you need to know when you start dye your hair

How it works: What did hair dye do to your hair? Basically, dying is using chemical product to break the cell of your hair, wash out the original color pigments and then replace it with new ones. This will damage your hair (Of course). So if you dye your hair too much it will cause split-end, dryness and tangle.

Whether you choose to dye your hair by yourself or having it done in a salon. Here are the most simple things you need to know about this interesting activity.

I Equipment

1. Mixing bowl

You can use either an old porcelain or plastics bowl but just remember NEVER use metal bowl. It will react with chemical ingredients in dye.

2. Tint brush

There are 2 types of tint brush: the one with comb and the separate one as shown on the photo. I recommend using this one cause it will be easier when you need precision on your hair.

3. Gloves

ALWAYS wear gloves when dying your hair. It’s for your own safety since you work with chemical liquid. Face mask is option but if you can get one then it’s better. The type of glove I recommend is the surgery gloves as shown above, it’s fit to your hand perfectly and therefore, easier to proceed.

4. Comb

Use the comb with tight cog so you can separate hair precisely and the dye being distribute more even. And a reminder, use PLASTIC comb.

5. Duck hair clipper

This one is used to keep your hair parted so that it won’t stick together. Helps you easier to dye. Not really compulsory but recommend. Again, use PLASTIC.

6. Others

There are a few stuffs which used as tips so I will talk about it later in the coming entries.

II Dye

In whole, there are 4 types of hair dye. However, we don’t need to be hair expert so I will list here only 2 most popular types.

1 Permanent

This type of dye with completely change your hair color. The ingredients mostly are Hydro Peoxide and Ammonia. It works as mentioned above, break the cell and put new color pigment to your hair. This make your hair thinner (of course lighter) and stiffer. It is not recommend to use regularly. The gap between two dye should be at least 3 months and your hair need to be take care of very carefully after dyed.

For example, if you choose reddish shade and your natural hair is dark brown, red is a strong color so you will have brown reddish after dye. However , after 12 times washed, the reddish fade away, leaving you with a shade of light brown or brown yellow. This is the color of your hair after being washed-out. The part dyed can’t go back to the original color even you wash it thousands times!

This is the reason why this type of dye is only available in close-to-natural shades and produced by famous brands like Schwarzkopf, L’Oreal, Dermalogica, Garnier… If you found blue in this category, trust me, it won’t be that blue you want.

2 Semi-permanent

Let’s imagine this type as a paint pot and you will paint your hair. It will provide you super vivid shade. Some strong shade even work great on unprocessed hair/ dark hair( I will talk about this on the next entry). However (oh yes, it is, I hate it :( ), this color only last for 4-5 times washed. It’s not strong enough to stay for long, it will fade away after every wash. If you have processed hair/bleached hair it will stay as stain, the color still fade away. The great thing about semi-permanent dye is that it won’t really damage your hair, it allow you to change your color every month or even every week (but this option is harmful, I bet)

This type of dye is usually provided by smaller brands. But if you love to have a rainbow hair color, you must have know these “big boss” : Manic Panic, Directions, Fudge…

[VIET] Hairdye 1: Những điều cơ bản cần biết về việc nhuộm tóc (1)

Nhuộm tóc là gì?

Là việc dùng hoá chất để phá vỡ cấu trúc vỏ bọc của tóc rồi sau đó đưa vào các phần tử màu mới nhằm thay thế các phần tử màu cũ, từ đó đổi màu của tóc theo ý muốn. Việc nhuộm tóc nhiều có thể gây ra xơ,rối và chẻ ngọn. Phụ thuộc vào màu bạn chọn mà sẽ có “độ bền” khác nhau.

Trước khi bắt đầu công cuộc đổi màu cho mái tóc của bạn, dù có là tự nhuộm hay ra tiệm thì bạn cũng nên biết những điều sau đây để có một mái tóc nhuộm như ý muốn. (phần”khoẻ” sẽ được nói ở một bài khác)

I. Dụng cụ cần có

1. Bát pha màu

Cái này có thể dùng bát sứ hoặc bát nhựa cũ thay vì đi mua. Tuy nhiên chỉ cần nhớ TUYỆT ĐỐI KHÔNG dùng bát kim loại do sẽ phản ứng với các hoá chất trong thuốc nhuộm. Hậu quả thế nào thì mình không biết nhưng e là không hay ho cho lắm.

2. Chổi

Các bạn có thể dùng loại chổi rời này hoặc chổi kèm lược nhưng mình khuyên là nên dùng chổi rời sẽ chính xác hơn. Đặc biệt là với các kiểu highlight phức tạp (có bạn nào muốn tóc cầu vồng không?)

3. Găng tay

Loại găng tay khuyên dùng là găng tay y tế do loại găng này có độ ma sát tốt hơn giúp thao tác chính xác và dễ dàng.

4. Lược

Dùng loại lược răng khít, loại như trên hình là tuyệt nhất vì có đuôi chia tóc rất tiện. Loại này còn dùng để đánh rối tóc nên khi mua có thể ra hàng hỏi lược đánh rối. Và một lần nữa, lược nhựa nhé!

5. Kẹp mỏ vịt

Món này sẽ giúp bạn chia tóc dễ dàng cũng như kẹp gọn những phần tóc khác nhau để dễ dàng thao tác chính xác. Nếu không mua được kẹp vịt thì có thể chia tóc rồi buộc túm lên nhưng chắc chắn sẽ vướng víu hơn. Lại lần nữa, kẹp nhựa!

7. Khác

Còn những thứ khác rất lặt vặt và thuộc phần tips nên sẽ để sang một bài khác nhé!

II. Thuốc nhuộm

Có hai loại thuốc nhuộm phổ biến được sử dụng trong công cuộc đổi màu cho tóc mà mình chắc chắn nhiều bạn sẽ lầm tưởng.

1. Loại vĩnh viễn (permanent)

Thực sự thì nó cũng không “vĩnh viễn” như tên gọi, nhưng loại này “thực sự” sẽ chuyển màu tóc của bạn sang một màu hoàn toàn khác. Để dễ hình dung thì ví dụ nếu bạn chọn thuốc nhuộm loại này màu đỏ thì tất nhiên màu đỏ là một màu rất mạnh nên bạn sẽ có mái tóc màu đỏ cho dù bất kể màu tóc gốc của bạn là màu gì đi chăng nữa. Tuy nhiên sau nhiều lần gội màu đỏ sẽ phai dần và tóc bạn sẽ chuyển về nâu sáng/vàng nâu tuỳ theo màu tóc gốc của bạn cũng như độ dày của sợi tóc. Loại thuốc nhuộm này sẽ có màu lưu lại ít nhất sau 12 lần gội. Thành phần chính gồm có Hydro peoxit (H2O2) và ammonia. Hai tác nhân hoá học này sẽ “rửa trôi” màu tóc nguyên thuỷ của bạn. Việc này sẽ làm tóc của bạn mỏng đi và cứng hơn. Nói ngắn gọn là nó có hại cho tóc của bạn.

Các hãng sản xuất loại này thường là các hãng lớn mà chắc chắn các bạn đều biết: Schwarzkopf, L’Oreal, Dermalogica, Garnier…Các màu chủ yếu của thuốc nhuộm loại này thường là những màu hướng tới màu tóc tự nhiên của người => chưa thể cầu vồng được!

2 Loại Semi-permanent (trời ơi không biết gọi là loại gì! T_T )

Loại thuốc nhuộm này cho phép bạn có TẤT CẢ màu mà bạn mong muốn! Vì nó có thể được mix với nhau như pha màu vậy (bài sau sẽ nói về vụ màu mè). Loại này có cực ít hoá chất giúp phá huỷ vỏ bọc của tóc nên hãy nghĩ rằng đây là một hộp màu vẽ và bạn sẽ tô lên tóc của bạn. Nó sẽ cho bạn màu rất nổi tuy nhiên sẽ không ở lại lâu. Điều này còn phụ thuộc vào màu tóc nền của bạn nhưng thường sẽ bị rửa trôi sau 4-5 lần gội. Loại này gần như không có hại cho tóc của bạn quá nhiều nên cho phép bạn nhuộm lại thường xuyên hơn.

Để có được các màu tóc nổi bật như hồng, xanh lá, xanh dương…thì chắc chắn bạn sẽ phải làm quen với người bạn này. Tất nhiên để đi từ màu tóc nền đen/ nâu đen đến màu hồng thì lại là một câu chuyện khác.

Loại này thì chỉ dành cho những “con người đột phá” nên thường được sản xuất bởi các hãng nhỏ hơn. Tuy nhiên nếu bạn đã yêu thích những gam màu độc đáo dành cho mái tóc của mình thì chắc hẳn sẽ biết những tên tuổi “lớn” như Manic Panic, Directions, Fudge…

Còn hai loại thuốc nhuộm nữa đó là thuốc nhuộm tạm thời, rửa trôi sau 1 lần gội và loại demi permanent thuộc khoảng giữa của semi permanent và permanent. Tuy nhiên hai loại này không phổ biến lắm. Nếu bạn không định trở thành thợ làm đầu chuyên nghiệp thì cũng không cần quan tâm đến nó đâu. ;)
